Andover, MA – June 23, 2025 -- MKS Inc. (NASDAQ: MKSI), a global provider of enabling technologies that transform our world, today announced the launch of the Spectra-Physics® Talon APX laser series. These new additions to the Talon product line are compact, high-reliability ultraviolet (UV) nanosecond lasers in the 15-30 W range, designed to extend the UV lifetime with prolonged maintenance cycles, increasing productivity while reducing cost of ownership.
“With industry-leading UV lifetime and an unmatched combination of performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency, Talon APX lasers are redefining next-generation manufacturing,” said Scott White, Senior Director of Product Marketing for Spectra-Physics lasers. “These high-power ns UV lasers offer greater predictability and extended maintenance intervals, driving higher productivity across applications. The Talon APX series builds on the proven long-life technology of MKS’ Explorer® ns UV laser line,” White continued. “By integrating these core capabilities into our higher-power platforms, the new Talon APX lasers deliver consistent performance over extended UV lifetimes - empowering customers to meet the demands of evolving applications with confidence.”
The Talon APX delivers 15 W to 30 W average UV power with pulse energy up to 300 µJ. With a UV lifetime supporting 40,000 hours of continuous use, Talon APX enables five or more years of 24/7 operation, dramatically reducing downtime and service needs. Building on the legacy of the Talon platform, Talon APX includes all advanced features customers expect such as true first pulse control, pulse-on-demand (POD), and position-synchronized output (PSO).
Leveraging MKS’ proven It’s in the Box™ design, all critical components—including control electronics and laser diodes—are housed in a single, compact, and lightweight laser head. This integration improves system reliability, simplifies installation, and reduces overall system complexity and integration time.
Engineered for robust 24/7 operation in harsh environments, Talon APX lasers are climate-proof and qualified in through extensive environmental qualification testing. Fully automated and computer-controlled, they deliver exceptional long-term stability in power, beam quality, and pointing precision—ensuring consistent performance in high-volume manufacturing (HVM) settings.
The new Spectra-Physics Talon APX will be showcased at Laser World of Photonics 2025, held in Munich, Germany June 24 – 27, 2025. Visit MKS at booth 314 in Hall A3 for a live demonstration and to learn more. For additional information, visit www.spectra-physics.com/Talon.
